Burglar strikes out when homeowner grabs baseball bat

OPELIKA, AL - A burglar got more than he bargained for when a homeowner came after him with a baseball bat early Monday morning.

The victim heard dogs barking outside of her Fruitland Ave. home around 2:50 a.m. on Dec. 17.

She went to check out the suspicious activity when she noticed the front porch light was out but the light switch was on.

She then grabbed a baseball bat and opened the front door to look outside. She saw a man dressed completely in black standing in the doorway.?

That's when the victim took her bat and started swinging. She hit the suspect several times and chased him off her property.

After taking care of the burglar, she called police. Officer's arrived and checked the area, but they couldn't find the suspect.

Police did find a window screen lying on the ground.

The victim was not hurt and the case is under investigation.
