In the documentary ?Music from the Big House,? Rita Chiarelli meets and performs with inmates at a maximum security prison in Louisiana. The film follows Chiarelli, known in Canada as ?the goddess of Canadian blues,? as she reaches out to inmates, including some who have been behind bars for decades. The inmates and Chiarelli end up writing a song in less than a day and performing it a day later. Chiarelli will host a question-and-answer session and perform this week at Albany?s Spectrum 8 Theatres after a screening of ?Big House.? The film opens at the Spectrum ? and nationwide ? on Friday, June 8.
7 p.m. Monday. $13. Spectrum 8 Theatres, 290 Delaware Ave., Albany. 449-8995; http://www.spectrum8.com
