Taylor Lautner, Lily Collins Faced 'Abduction' Challenges Head On

Between kissing and action scenes, Lautner says, 'One's a little easier than the other.'
By Kara Warner

HOLLYWOOD — MTV News has been hot on the case of Taylor Lautner's big action thriller, "Abduction," ever since it was announced. As such, in recent months, we've chatted with Lautner and co-star Lily Collins about everything from the film's complex and stylized action to its sweet, believable romance, to the actors' action-star influences and intense prep work.

Naturally, much ado has been made of the steamy kisses Lautner and Collins share, as well as how much action and stunt work they do in the film. So on Thursday night, when MTV News headed out to the star-studded premiere, where Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were among the VIP attendees, we asked the leading man and lady to compare and contrast the challenges involved in filming action scenes vs. kissing scenes.

"Ooof. Two different kinds of action, right?" Lautner said with a smile. "We've got both of them in this movie, that's for sure. One's a little easier than the other," he said, hinting at the kissing scene.

Click here for photos from the red carpet.

"Well, the action scenes, we shot the majority of them in the middle of the night so those were kind of difficult because we were tired," Collins said. "The kissing scene, everyone was laughing all around us, everyone was making it really fun, but at the same time trying not to laugh in the middle of it, so that was kind of difficult."

"There was a lot of laughing," Lautner agreed. "We're good friends, so it was all easy."

Back in April, during his "MTV First: Taylor Lautner" interview, he explained what makes for a good onscreen kiss from an actor's point of view. "It depends on the person and your vibe together, 'cause sometimes it can totally be awkward," he explained. "But if you're in the moment and you are literally living these characters, you forget about everything else, then it's fine. It was totally fine."

Check out everything we've got on "Abduction."

Building Your List | marketing list

When you?re running on online business, building your Internet marketing list is one of the most important things on which you can focus. Being successful with your business is all about reaching potential buyers of your services or products. Having a list of people who have already expressed interest in what you have to offer is one very lucrative way of selling new products and new services. Building this list should be an ongoing process; time spent on this task is always worth it.

When considering building your Internet marketing list, think about the kinds of people you want to reach. Getting people to give you permission to email them is only one aspect of building a list. You want as many of these people as possible to truly be potential buyers now and in the future. If your business revolves around selling e-books on gardening, you want your list to be filled with people who are interested in gardening.

One of the best ways of building your Internet marketing list is by offering people something for free; something that relates to your business. If you are selling gardening e-books, then you could write a small report offering valuable information about gardening as a download to people who give you their names and email addresses.

Build your list this way, and take care of your list by periodically sending them valuable snippets of information. Many of these people will be more than willing to buy whenever you have something to sell.

Preschoolers' grasp of numbers predicts math performance in school years; Early number sense linked to elementary math scores

ScienceDaily (Sep. 14, 2011) ? A new study published in the online journal PLoS ONE reports that the precision with which preschoolers estimate quantities, prior to any formal education in mathematics, predicts their mathematics ability in elementary school, according to research from the Kennedy Krieger Institute.

Humans have an intuitive sense of number that allows them, for example, to readily identify which of two containers has more objects without counting. This ability is present at birth, and gradually improves throughout childhood. Although it's easier to compare quantities if the amounts differ greatly (such as 30 versus 15 objects), greater precision is needed when comparing items that are much closer in number. When this ability is measured during the school age years, it correlates with mathematics achievement. However, it has been unclear until now whether this intuitive ability actually serves as a foundation for school-age math abilities.

Results of the new study show that children's ability to make numerical estimates in preschool predicted their performance on mathematical tests taken in elementary school, more than two years later. The relationship appeared to be specific to math ability, because preschool number skills did not predict other abilities, such as expressive vocabulary or the ability to quickly name objects like letters or numbers.

"Children vary widely in both their numerical and non-numerical cognitive abilities at all ages," said Dr. Michele Mazzocco, Director of the Math Skills Development Project at Kennedy Krieger Institute and lead author of the study. "Based on earlier data showing a relationship between intuitive number skills and formal mathematics, we were interested to learn whether numerical skills measured prior to schooling predict the level of mathematics skills children demonstrate years later, in a formal educational setting."

Mazzocco, along with researchers Lisa Feigenson and Justin Halberda of Johns Hopkins University, examined the performance of 17 children (7 girls, 10 boys) who had taken part in an earlier study of numerical abilities as preschoolers. At ages three and four, the children had been asked to judge which of two sets of objects, such as blue or red crayons, had more items. In this new study, researchers measured the same children's math abilities more than two years later using a standardized mathematics assessment that involved a wide range of skills like counting, reading and writing numbers, and simple arithmetic.

"It was striking to find evidence that basic number abilities at such a young age may play a role in formal math achievement," said Mazzocco. "But additional studies are needed to determine whether these skills are malleable at an early age, how they contribute to math achievement and if they are related to other known influences on math performance."

Flood victims should seek federal aid if President Barack Obama ...

If you?re a flood victim, you should apply for help from the federal government through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

It doesn?t matter whether you have flood insurance or not or what kind of other insurance you have or if you have insurance at all. Federal assistance is available regardless, but you won?t get it if you don?t apply, said Bill Brubaker, a public information officer for FEMA.

President Barack Obama approved a declaration disaster for 19 midstate counties, covering the providing of assistance to individuals in each county that is declared a disaster.

You?ll also be able to apply over the phone using a toll-free number to be made public if the individual assistance declaration is made. You?ll also be able to apply online at www.fema.gov.

What kind of help is available from FEMA?

FEMA can provide grants of money to homeowners up to a certain amount. Brubaker said FEMA won?t buy you a new home, but you can get money to replace ruined clothes and for other things needed to make you safe and comfortable.

FEMA can also provide you with temporary housing in the form of a mobile home or money to put you up in a hotel or rental assistance.

He said help for small business owners is typically loans available through the Small Business Administration. SBA representatives would be at disaster-recovery centers.

What should I be doing now while I wait until I can apply?

Many midstate flood victims who don?t have flood insurance are already well on their way to cleaning up and restoring their property. Brubaker said that?s OK as long as you document what your loss has been. Hopefully, you took lots of photos and videos of the damage before you started your cleanup. If not, do the best you can to document the damage on paper after the fact.

Flooding is not covered in a standard homeowners insurance policy, according to the state Insurance Department. But it?s still a good idea to report your flood loss to your insurance agent just to make sure, said Willem Rijksen, a spokesman for the American Insurance Association.

If you have flood insurance, you should have contacted your agent and have a claim started by now. You should have been contacted by an adjuster, and you might be waiting for an adjuster to inspect your home or business.

In the meantime, if your property is safe to re-enter, go ahead and separate damaged property from undamaged property. But don?t throw anything away until an adjuster has seen it. If you have to throw something away, take pictures of the damaged property to document it for the adjuster and keep a sample for the adjuster to see ? such as cutting out a piece of wall-to-wall carpet. Do all you can to protect undamaged property.

How will I know when I can apply?

Brubaker said FEMA will use local media to get the word out regarding when the president has issued an individual assistance declaration, which counties are covered, where recovery centers will be, and how people can apply.

What do I need to provide FEMA to apply?

Bring anything you have that can help document and describe your loss ? photos, videos, what you?ve written in a notebook. Brubaker said it shouldn?t matter what format the photos are in.

You should bring your most recent income-tax statements, and proof of income, such as a recent pay statement. Proof of income is important for small-business owners seeking loans through the SBA.

Personal Umbrella Insurance ? What does it mean to suit your ...

You don?t own enough liability insurance. Period. Not a soul does. In over 2,000 insurance reviews I did for buyers, Possess seen that at least 80 % to 90 % ones were grossly under-insured for injury lawsuits. The commonest liability limits on auto and home policies I see are either $100,000 per person or $300,000 per accident. It?s not much for the human life ? insufficient to purchase the many medical expenses of the person you severely injure, as well as a possible time of lost pay and compensation for suffering and pain.

Without nearly enough protection, what might you do? Here?s some really good news: You can purchase another layer of liability, known as a personal umbrella policy, that sits on top of your other personal liability coverages to your car, home, boat, etc. It defends you and also pays legal judgments against you each time a covered lawsuit exceeds positioned on liability insurance limits.

Best of all, an umbrella policy is amazingly inexpensive ? usually about $150 to $200 a year for $1 million of coverage. Leading to $75 to $100 annually for every single additional $1 million of coverage. Note: This is simply not a typo. These cost is truly a year ? not a month!

Buying an umbrella policy is flat-out the very best value inside insurance business. It includes some of the broadest coverage inside insurance business in an incredibly low price. Buying an umbrella policy also satisfies two guiding principles: not risking over to suit your budget to shed and not risking a whole lot for just a little.

Affording an umbrella is straightforward. That you do not even need to boost your insurance bill ? just shift dollars far from less important coverages. One example is, it will save you some $ 100 by raising the deductible with your car insurance and homeowner?s insurance by $500, or by dropping collision coverage by using an older car. Use that savings to over cover an umbrella policy.

If you would like learn more about Personal Umbrella Insurance take a look no further!

Reports: Japan airport worker posts Obama flight (AP)

TOKYO ? An air traffic controller at Tokyo's Haneda Airport faces possible punishment after posting confidential information on his blog, including the flight plan for President Barack Obama's visit to Japan last year, news reports said Saturday.

The controller, identified only as a man in his 50s, uploaded a dozen photos he took of flight plans and radar screens onto his personal blog, according to public broadcaster NHK. A post about Air Force One included its route as well as takeoff and landing details which are normally kept secret for security reasons.

Obama traveled to Japan in November to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Yokohama.

The controller also posted the flight plan for an unmanned American reconnaissance aircraft that was dispatched to gather radiation data from the crippled Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant, Kyodo News agency said. All the images have since been deleted.

The transport ministry is investigating and considering disciplinary action, Kyodo and NHK said. Calls to the ministry were not answered Saturday.

Kyodo said Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, who took office eight days ago, will explain the findings of the investigation to Obama when he travels to Washington later this month.

Noda has said he wants to strengthen ties between the countries and has expressed strong support for the U.S.-Japan security alliance.

Nearly 4,000 Indiana students seek private school vouchers (Reuters)

INDIANAPOLIS (Reuters) ? Some 3,778 Indiana students have signed up to receive private school tuition money under a new and controversial state-wide voucher program, with a week to go before a September 16 deadline.

Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Bennett said he was pleased with the turnout in a program that is capped in the first year to 7,500 students, and may include 15,000 next year before caps are later removed.

The most expansive school voucher program in the country was signed into law by Governor Mitch Daniels in May, and allows low and middle-income families to use taxpayer dollars to help send their children to private schools.

Other voucher programs, which are popular among political conservatives, are limited to poor students, those with special needs or those in failing schools.

"I want any child whose family believes that the child could be better served to have that choice," Bennett said.

Courts have struck down state-wide voucher programs in Arizona, Florida and Colorado. Indiana's largest teachers' union, the Indiana State Teachers Association, has filed a lawsuit opposing the program.

The suit agues that the program violates the state constitution by giving public money to religious schools, and violates a provision that obligates the state to create a general and uniform system of common schools.

But a judge refused last month to issue an injunction halting the program. The state's second largest teacher's union, the Indiana Federation of Teachers, is planning its own lawsuit.

Federation President Rick Muir said the program takes money from already financially hurting public schools. "The worst is yet to come," Muir said.

The majority of vouchers have gone to religious schools, according to John West, an attorney for the ISTA suit.

Under the plan, a family of four with an income of up to $41,348 can get a voucher of up to $4,500 for grades 1-8. The same family making up to $61,000 a year could get 50 percent of the tuition support received by their public school district, typically around $3,000.

Monica Poindexter said that without the voucher program, she didn't think she could keep her 12-year-old daughter Mia at an Indianapolis Catholic school because of the financial sacrifice, and she's grateful for the help.

"Clearly this school environment is working for her," Poindexter said.

Greg Perkins, president of Cardinal Ritter High School and St. Michael-St. Gabriel Elementary in Indianapolis, said the elementary school had 56 students using vouchers, with 28 new students coming from public schools.

Muir said vouchers, combined with rules allowing children in urban schools to apply for open suburban spots if their parents provide transportation, will allow private schools and suburban public schools to cherry-pick the best students and leave those with the most challenges behind.

Bennett said 85 percent of voucher students so far qualified for free and reduced-price lunch programs, which he said undercut the cherry-picking argument.

"I believe a little bit of competition in the public school system is good, and we're actually seeing some pretty substantial operational changes in the public school districts as a response to this," Bennett said.

Life With Dogs ? Pet Travel ? Crossing The Border

Buster and Ty in Victoria, BC

This week Buster and Ty, the Life with Dogs travel correspondents, come to you from across the border in Victoria, BC! The rules for taking your pet abroad depend on the countries you?re visiting, and we?ve got the information you?ll need if you?re planning a vacation to Canada.

Ty: When I heard we were taking a fairy to Canada I thought, ?We?re already packed like sardines in this little RV ? I hope this fairy doesn?t have a lot of luggage.?

Buster: But, I think having a fairy to play with would be fun!

Ty: It wasn?t long before we figured out we were taking a FERRY ? not a FAIRY.

Buster: I was kind of disappointed.

Ty: Taking your dog to Canada, whether by car or by boat, is pretty easy. Here?s all you have to worry about:

What YOU Will Need

If you are a run-of-the-mill adult US citizen, you need a passport. For more information on applying for or renewing your passport, read this. Children under the age of 18 will need their birth certificates and if you have some unusual circumstances, Wikipedia has a good overview of the information you need to know and additional documents you may need to bring.

What Your DOG Will Need

Pet dogs can enter Canada for any period of time without quarantine from any country. What you need to prove is that your dog has a current vaccination for rabies. Here is a summary of the official take on the required proof:

Domestic or pet dogs may enter Canada if accompanied by an original valid rabies vaccination certificate, which is issued by a licensed veterinarian (a veterinarian who is licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the country of origin) in English or French and which clearly identifies the dogs and states that they are currently vaccinated against rabies.

This certificate should identify the animal as in breed, color, weight, etc., and indicate the name of the licensed rabies vaccine used (trade name), including serial number and duration of validity (up to three years). Please note that if the duration of validity is not indicated on the certificate, the vaccine will be considered to be valid for one year.

There is no waiting period imposed between the time your dog is vaccinated for rabies and the time he or she enters Canada, and no vaccination or certification is required if your dog is less than three months old.

?

Notice About Pet Travel in Ontario

Currently, there is a ban on ?pit bull type? dogs in the entire province of Ontario. That means that any police or animal control officer can perform a search and confiscate any dog deemed to be a ?pit bull type.? If the dog is proven to be a pit bull, it will be euthanized ? even if it hasn?t done anything wrong.

There are no exceptions for tourists traveling with their pets. So, if your dog is, or could be mistaken for a pit bull, we recommend you avoid Ontario.

Do you have any tips for traveling with your dog to another country?

?

AP Exclusive: Slain boy's mom discusses cult life (AP)

WESTMINSTER, Md. ? When Ria Ramkissoon's spiritual mentor ordered her to deny food and water to her toddler son, she didn't know what to think or do. She was paralyzed by fear and confusion.

The 19-year-old mother had been living with the woman, who called herself Queen Antoinette, for several months when Ramkissoon's son did not say "amen" before a meal one morning. That word was one of the few Javon Thompson could say at 15 months old, and Antoinette told Ramkissoon not to feed him until he said it. Like always, she cited the Bible as her authority.

In Antoinette's unusual household ? which police and prosecutors later described as a cult ? no one questioned her orders.

Ramkissoon thought about defying her leader, grabbing Javon and leaving the house. But she didn't think Antoinette would maliciously make up her claim that the boy was possessed by an evil spirit. And she didn't want to defy God's will, guaranteeing eternal damnation.

So she did nothing.

Nobody else in the 10-person household came to Javon's aid either. Over the next week, he whimpered and grew sluggish and sallow. By the time Antoinette relented and told Ramkissoon to feed the boy, it was too late. Javon died in his mother's arms.

Investigators discovered his body more than a year later.

Antoinette is serving a 50-year sentence for second-degree murder; her adult daughter and another follower are also in prison.

Now living in a faith-based treatment center, Ramkissoon says she knows it's difficult to comprehend how any mother could watch her son starve. She freely uses the word "crazy" to describe her actions, which were set in motion by her desire to provide a better home for her son.

"It's like it's somebody else's life, but it's not," Ramkissoon told The Associated Press in her first interview since Javon's death. "That is my life, and those are the choices that I've made and those were the fears that I dealt with, no matter how ridiculous they may be to somebody else."

For years, Ramkissoon clung to the belief that Javon would be resurrected, as Antoinette said he would. When Ramkissoon pleaded guilty to child abuse resulting in death, she insisted on a provision stating that her plea would be withdrawn if Javon came back to life.

Only since her release from custody last year has she fully let go of that belief, allowing her to properly mourn the boy who would have turned 6 on Saturday.

"None of that had to happen to him. He's in a house surrounded by people who are basically doing this to him," Ramkissoon said. "I felt like if anyone had a responsibility to him there that it was me, and I basically gave that up. So yeah, that's a difficult thing. To die and to suffer in that kind of way, that's not easy to have to swallow. That's something that I'm very much responsible for, as much as anybody else."

___

For much of her life, Ramkissoon has felt isolated and confused. She believed in God but didn't understand how to practice her faith, making her vulnerable to someone who claimed to have all the answers.

When she was 7, she left her native Trinidad to join her mother and a new American stepfather in Baltimore. Her mother is Hindu but didn't practice her religion in the United States.

Ramkissoon sought solace in Christianity, but became disillusioned with traditional churches. When she tried to read the Bible on her own, she was frustrated and sometimes threw it against the wall in anger.

Shortly after Ramkissoon graduated high school, she began dating a young troublemaker named Robert Thompson. He was her first boyfriend, and even when he ended up in jail, she insisted he was a good guy. He got her pregnant around her 18th birthday.

Thompson broke off the relationship before Javon was born. The only times he saw his son were through a plastic barrier at the Baltimore jail when Ramkissoon brought Javon for visits every Friday. Thompson was ultimately acquitted of charges including attempted murder. The AP could not locate him for comment for this story.

Meanwhile, Ramkissoon's relationship with her stepfather, Craig Newton, was deteriorating. He drank and was volatile. At times he was physically abusive, including one occasion during her pregnancy when Ramkissoon says he tried to choke her.

In a telephone interview, Newton did not dispute Ramkissoon's account of his drinking or the choking incident. But he denied her claim that he once locked Ramkissoon, her mother and her brothers out of the family home.

Javon's birth only intensified the pressure Ramkissoon felt.

She began training to be a pharmacy technician, but her heart wasn't in it. She didn't want to be away from her son, and she began to think her mother might take the infant away.

Around this time, she got an unexpected phone call from a high school friend, Tiffany Smith, who also had a baby. Smith said she wasn't working, allowing her to concentrate on her son and her faith. She said she was living in her "father's house," although it was clear she didn't mean her biological father.

___

Members of Antoinette's group took turns recruiting Ramkissoon. Though they were stingy with details about the arrangement, she was desperate, and their offer began to sound attractive.

"I had a really strong fear that (Javon) was going to get taken away from me if I didn't know what I was doing," she said, tears flowing. "That's kind of when I took things in my own hands."

In April 2006, Ramkissoon asked her mother to drive her and Javon to a park. She packed a few outfits and other supplies for him in a diaper bag. For herself, she brought nothing but the clothes she wore. Cult members met them and drove them to their home.

Ramkissoon stopped answering her cellphone, then turned it off and handed it over to Antoinette, who claimed her commands came directly from God. She and other members destroyed their identification documents. Antoinette took her shopping for clothing in the colors she said God favored: blue, white and khaki. Doctor visits were forbidden, and Smith gave birth to her second child ? fathered by Antoinette's teenage son ? at home, without medical care.

The group had a sole benefactor: Antoinette's boyfriend, Steven Bynum. He paid their rent and provided food and other necessities. No one else had a job.

Antoinette always made sure the kids had enough to eat and admonished followers who she thought were being neglectful.

But she seemed wary of Javon from the beginning, planting the seeds of doubt in Ramkissoon's mind. Out of the blue, she would say, "There's something wrong with that child." The boy's failure to say "amen" confirmed Antoinette's suspicions. She said Javon had a "spirit of rebellion" inside him, and that only fasting could exorcise it.

Antoinette represented herself at trial, and she acknowledged telling Ramkissoon not to feed Javon. But she characterized it as a "suggestion," not an order. The jury disagreed.

___

When Javon died in late 2006 or early 2007, Antoinette told her followers to pray for his resurrection. They packed the body into a suitcase. Ramkissoon sprayed it with disinfectant and stuffed the suitcase with fabric softener sheets to mask the odor.

After Javon's death, Bynum distanced himself from Antoinette and stopped paying the rent. The cult leader and her followers left Baltimore, the suitcase in tow.

Ramkissoon kept looking for signs that the horrific events were part of God's plan, and seemed to find one during a police encounter. When the group was evicted from a Pennsylvania hotel, officers handled the suitcase with Javon's body but didn't seem to suspect anything.

Antoinette continued to bend people to her will. She persuaded an elderly man to store some of their belongings, including the suitcase, in a shed behind his Philadelphia home. The cult moved to New York City, where Antoinette talked a man into kicking his wife and family out of his Brooklyn apartment and moving Antoinette and her followers in.

Back in Baltimore, Ramkissoon's mother was waging a futile battle to alert authorities. Seeta Khadan-Newton spoke to her daughter once, through an intercom at the building in Brooklyn. She said Ramkissoon sounded "like a zombie."

In court, Ramkissoon spoke in a quiet monotone, reciting the facts of the case without apparent feeling.

"I didn't feel anything for a long time," she told the AP.

___

Today, after more than a year in treatment, Ramkissoon has more life behind her eyes, and tears and laughter come easily. She dresses smartly and has a stylish short haircut. When she arrived, she told the center's staff that she didn't want to talk to anyone. Now she works as an intake coordinator, the first point of contact for incoming residents.

She's expected to finish this fall and hopes to enroll in college.

Edwin "Tito" Matos, Ramkissoon's pastor and the director of the treatment center, said the key to Ramkissoon's transformation was teaching her to think for herself. He would ask her to interpret Bible passages, giving her a Bible dictionary to aid her research.

When she realized that Antoinette had manipulated passages to support her commands, Ramkissoon would cry.

After several months, Ramkissoon began to open up about her experiences, and did a lot more crying. She began to realize that Javon died because of her own decisions, not because of God's will.

"It is difficult," she said, "because I don't think it's settled, fully, the weight of what was lost."

Ramkissoon said she's often asked how she can still believe in God. But she credits her faith, and the fellowship she's found at the treatment center, for allowing her to take control of her life.

"Coming from a cult, people don't want to hear you talk about God," she said. "I may have ... approached it the wrong way. It doesn't mean that God isn't true and that the community and love and family don't exist in the right way."

Several months into Ramkissoon's stay at the center, Matos wasn't sure he was getting through to her. She'd tell him she wanted to talk, then sit in his office and say nothing. One Sunday, he was invited to preach at a church in Baltimore, and Ramkissoon accompanied him and sang in the choir. From the pulpit, he referred to her obliquely, talking about the difficulty of building relationships and trust.

For years, Ramkissoon had avoided drawing attention to herself. But in the middle of the sermon, she stood up. She walked to the pulpit, climbed the stairs and extended her arms toward Matos. The pastor and his pupil embraced.

___

Street League 2011 Wrapped Up in Newark With Malto as Champ ...

Malto Street League Skateboarding 2011 Champ - California Skateparks images
Malto Street League Skateboarding 2011 Champ - California Skateparks images

The final Street League Skateboarding event, the SLS Championship, had Sean Malto winning against the toughest pros, including favorite, Nyjah Huston.

Hurricane Irene was blowing up the US East Coast, but not with enough force to stop the DC Pro Tour Street League Skateboarding ( SLS) Championships from happening at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. Sean Malto ended up winning in a huge upset, snagging the winner-take-all Street League Champ 2011 title from 2010 SLS Champ, winner of the three SLS events this year, and X Games 17 Skateboard Street gold medalist, Nyjah Huston.

Sean Malto Opportunity to Skate in Street League Finals

Malto had missed the first Street League stop this year, still recovering from knee surgery, and wasn't even one of the ten Street League finalists, but he got an opportunity to skate into the finals. Tommy Sandoval was in the finals because Torey Pudwill was out with a ankle injury, but Sandoval rolled his ankle, making a spot for Malto. The event got moved up from Sunday to Saturday, August 27 because of the threat of Hurricane Irene, so the skaters had to be ready with one less day of practice. It seems that all of these unusual circumstances set up some confluence of good fortune for Malto, who skated with a remarkable 100% consistency all day.

Street League Skateboarding 2011 Top Ten Final Results

  1. Sean Malto
  2. Nyjah Huston
  3. Chris Cole
  4. Chaz Ortiz
  5. Paul Rodriguez
  6. Mikey Taylor
  7. Billy Marks
  8. Shane O'Neill
  9. Ryan Sheckler
  10. Mike Mo Capaldi

The top 24 Street League skaters got whittled down to a mere ten to compete in the finals in the Street League Championship and it was anyone's to win; because of his three-event winning streak, Nyjah was a huge favorite. According to the Street League press release, ?We wanted to create the 'Super-Bowl' of skateboarding by adding the winner-takes-all championship to the series,? said SLS creator and commissioner, Rob Dyrdek.

This Street League contest featured the customary three sections:Tech or Best Trick, Line, and Big. In the Tech/Best Trick section, only successful attempts counted toward scores; skaters did not get penalized for failed attempts. In the Line and Big sections, all attempts counted toward a cumulative score with consistency and difficulty the key; difficult tricks earned high scores and errors or bails negatively affected scores.

Tricky Tech Section in Street League

The Tech section featured a short stair set, a sloped rail, a bump up to A-frame rail, and a pair of ledges over grass gaps and skaters had seven attempts to land something difficult or technical for major points. The A-frame rail and ledges were popular targets for landing tricks In this section. The first seven riders came up empty and then Sheckler came out with a full cab to backside lipslide off the A-frame rail that jump-started the contest and put him in first place.

Huston blasted out a backside 270 to noseblunt on the A-frame rail and Malto casually threw in an overcrook to shuv out on the A-frame. Mikey Taylor, not to be outdone looked smooth and tough with a buttery back lipslide to tailslide out on the rail. Billy Marks landed a tight nollie heelflip to boardslide out on the A-frame that wasn't enough to push him into the top three, but it kept him solidly in the contest.

In the sixth round of the Tech section, Ortiz banged out a trick he never even landed the entire Street League Series: a nollie bigspin heelflip up the A-frame rail to backside lipslide out for a 9.3 to catapult into first. Malto stayed steady and solid and nailed a nose grind nollie flip out on the ledge. Mike Mo Capaldi and Ryan Sheckler were the two skaters with the lowest scores eliminated at the end of the Tech section.

Street League Championship Line Section

Skaters had five attempts to attack the Line section with combinations of tricks or linking two or more tricks ? the more complicated and difficult the better. The Line section included a six-stair set with rails on either side, a low quarter parallel to a flat rail in the center of the section, and kickers over a huge grass gap framed by ledges at the end of the section. Huston came out with a kickflip backside lipslide on the rail to backside tailslide on the ledge but Malto answered with a back lipslide on the rail to 5-0 on the the ledge to move into first place. Rodriguez one-upped Malto with a switch kickflip to backside tailslide on the ledge and took over the top spot ? but not for long.

Malto was skating with perfect consistency, not missing one attempt whatsoever and he threw down a switch backside 50-50 on the rail to backside smith grind on the ledge and was back in first. Cole came alive with a sweet kickflip to backside lipslide down the rail to nollie crooked grind across the ledge to push himself into first. and Cole and Malto juggled the lead for another turn, but Malto ultimately pulled ahead with a switch crooked grind to 50-50 on the ledge and he held onto first going into the Big section. O'Neill and Marks didn't make the cut and were eliminated going into the Big section.

Street League Skateboarding Big Section

The Big section had an intimidating, wide eleven-stair set with hubba ledges on each side and challenging square rail down the center of the stairs that offered plenty of opportunities to shred with major tricks on either the hubbas or the rail. Huston came alive again and landed a nollie heelflip to backside lipslide down the rail and went seven for seven but it wasn't enough to take Malto down and he finished in second.

Cole banged out a big 360 flip to 50-50 grind on one of the hubba ledges to earn a 9.6 ? the highest score of the event. But he had been so inconsistent that it only bumped him into third place. Malto landed a beautiful backside overcrook on the rail and then Cole fell on his last attempt. Malto knew he had the win and he maintained his consistency for his final attempt and floated a nice little 50-50 down the hubba ledge and landed in the middle of a victory celebration.

Fans who can't get enough can watch the digital broadcasts of all Street League events and look forward to next year's edition of Street League. Congrats to all the skaters and thanks to Rob Dyrdek for an amazing season!
